GovCon Hot Takes: AI-Written Proposals — Game Changer or Garbage?
ArticleAI proposal writing is the most divisive topic in GovCon right now. One camp: it 10x's draft speed and small teams can finally compete. The other: evaluators can smell generic AI text and it kills win themes. Where do you land — and what's your actual workflow? Anyone willing to share real win/loss data with AI-assisted proposals?

I land in the middle: AI can help a small team draft faster, but the proposal still needs a clear reason the buyer should choose you. Faster writing alone doesn’t create that.
The workflow I favor:
1. Map requirements and evaluation criteria into a compliance matrix.
2. Define win themes using the buyer’s priorities and evidence we can substantiate.
3. Use AI to organize approved material and produce a first draft.
4. Verify every claim, reference, number, and commitment.
5. Review against the scoring criteria, then cut generic language.
For a small business like mine, the appeal is more time for supplier quotes, pricing, and execution planning.
I don’t have verified win/loss data to share yet. I’d like to see results that include proposal volume, opportunity fit, and review effort alongside win rate. Hours saved matter—but awards and profitable delivery are the real test.
